Itinerary
Depart Kigali in the morning for a scenic drive east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s premier wildlife reserve. Upon arrival, embark on an exciting Mornign game drive, spotting giraffes, zebras, elephants, and other savannah wildlife.
Later, enjoy a relaxing boat ride on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birds. This is also a perfect spot for photography.
As the day winds down, head to the highest peak campsite at Mtumba for an overnight stay under the stars. Share stories around the campfire and prepare for the next morning’s adventure.
(Optional: lodge stay for those who prefer full amenities.)
Wake up early for a sunrise game drive, watching the park come alive with wildlife in the morning light. After breakfast, continue with a full-day safari exploring Akagera’s lesser-known wilderness areas. This increases your chance to spot rare animals and enjoy more secluded landscapes.
Stop for a picnic lunch in the park, then continue exploring lakes, forests, and savannah plains.
In the late afternoon, drive back to Kigali and check in at Eagle View Lodge to relax and prepare for the next day’s journey.
After breakfast, depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park. The highlight of the day is the Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a 200-meter suspended bridge rising 50 meters above the forest floor. Walk across this thrilling structure while enjoying panoramic views of the rainforest, spotting monkeys, birds, and the dense green canopy. This unique experience immerses you in one of Africa’s oldest rainforests.
Afterward, enjoy lunch at Nyungwe Hill Top View Lodge. In the afternoon, you have two choices:
- Embark on an optional hike to Ndabarare Waterfall, a scenic trail leading to one of Nyungwe’s most beautiful waterfalls. This hike is perfect for photography and nature lovers.
- Relax at the lodge, soak in the hilltop views, or enjoy a peaceful forest walk nearby.
Wake up early for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests. Accompanied by professional park rangers, track these remarkable primates as they move through the canopy, forage, and communicate. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat while learning about conservation efforts.
After the trek, enjoy a scenic drive back to Kigali, passing Rwanda’s lush highlands and picturesque villages. Arrive in the late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
