Full Description

Day 1: Cultural Immersion – From Kigali to Nyanza and Butare

Your journey begins with a morning departure from Kigali, winding southward through Rwanda’s signature hills and rolling tea plantations. The first cultural stop is Nyanza, where the King’s Palace Museum welcomes you with an enchanting glimpse into pre-colonial royal life. Explore traditional architecture, admire the elegance of the Inyambo long-horned cows, and experience the pulse of Rwanda’s history through a vibrant traditional dance performance that connects past and present.

Next, head to Butare (Huye) to visit the Ethnographic Museum, a cultural cornerstone filled with artifacts that showcase Rwanda’s artistic, social, and spiritual traditions. Nearby, you’ll make a reflective stop at the Murambi Genocide Memorial, a moving tribute to resilience and remembrance.

After lunch en route, your scenic drive continues toward Nyungwe National Park, with sweeping views and forest canopies revealing glimpses of colobus monkeys and native birds. As evening sets in, arrive at your forest lodge nestled near Gisakura’s tea estates, where you’ll unwind to the calming symphony of the rainforest.

Day 2: Above & Below the Canopy – Nyungwe’s Aerial Walk & Colobus Monkey Trail

Wake up to the tranquil melodies of the rainforest and enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading to the Uwinka Reception Center, where today’s adventure begins. Your morning unfolds with the iconic Nyungwe Canopy Walk, a thrilling suspension bridge hanging 50 meters above the forest floor. As you step onto the walkway, you’ll feel the cool mist of the trees rise to meet you, while the expansive views of emerald hills and dense foliage stretch as far as the eye can see. High above the ground, you might spot exotic birds in flight, colorful butterflies fluttering by, and playful monkeys dancing in the treetops.

After this exhilarating experience, you’ll continue deeper into the forest for the Colobus Monkey Trail, guided by an expert ranger. This scenic trail leads through tranquil groves and bamboo thickets, where you’ll have the rare chance to encounter the Angolan black-and-white colobus monkeys. These striking, long-haired primates are often seen in large troops, leaping gracefully from branch to branch. It’s a photographer’s dream and a nature lover’s delight.

As the day winds down, enjoy the tranquility of the park. Whether you choose to rest, take a stroll, or engage with the local community, your time in Nyungwe will leave you with a deeper connection to Rwanda’s natural beauty.

Day 3: Nature’s Wonders – Waterfall Hike & Return to Kigali

Begin your day with a nourishing breakfast before setting off on a guided hike to Ndambarare Waterfall, one of Nyungwe’s most photogenic gems. This 3- to 4-hour trail begins amidst scenic tea plantations, gradually drawing you into the dense rainforest. Along the way, listen to the melodic calls of birds and rustling leaves as you cross streams and explore varied forest ecosystems.

Once at the waterfall, pause to admire the cascading water surrounded by verdant foliage perfect for photographs and quiet moments of awe. After enjoying this peaceful natural haven, return for lunch at the park’s eco-restaurant before starting your drive back to Kigali to your location. The return journey offers more views of Rwanda’s serene countryside, leaving you with reflections of culture, beauty, and adventure.
